X Factor Statement: Danyl Johnson

"Dannii made a joke about the lyrics of Danyl's song, referencing a recent newspaper interview he has given about his private life. She spoke to Danyl straight after the show, explained what she was talking about and he wasn't offended in the slightest. Dannii is mortified if her comments have been misinterpreted as she has always been hugely supportive of the gay and bi-sexual community for her entire career."

  3. Dannii is so gay positive she is practically a gay man!

Danyl came out himself. People are missing the point...we should all be talking about why there is NO lgbt visibility on a show as camp/gay as The X Factor and why mainstream gay popstars/contestants have to be closeted or 'play it straight'.

Fair Play for making the point about the song Dan.

  4. @DanniiMinogue I didn't like the way Simon told you afterwards 'forget playing any of THOSE games' & then 'this guy deserves a break' as though in spite of Danyl's sexuality. It's clearly still a taboo/issue on prime time ITV talent contests, Simon acts like he's overlooking sexuality for talent, yet he clearly thinks its issue enough to hide! (changing the lyrics unnecessarily). Anyway, much love & support #TeamMinogue

  5. I don't think ANY gay or bisexual people were offended by Dannii's comment tonight. It was just the PC brigade going too far as usual. Chin up Dannii, ignore the haters.

  6. people are ridiculous. both you and kylie have a huge gay following. if you were disrespecting danyl, you would have been disrespecting a huge percentage of the people that support you... obviously that was not the case.

    all the best dannii!

  7. Nah. It was clear you were being supportive of him. In retrospect best left unsaid due to the potential misunderstanding, but you are an honest and spontaneous lady and spoke from the hip as usual, which is good

  8. i knew what you meant Dannii!
the people that are angry didnt even do the research to actually see that Danyl already told everyone that he is Bisexual.

  12. To Dannii: i love you so so much dannii and i think there's nothing wrong to what you said. You're a judge of the show and you have the AUTHORITY to comment about anything on the contestants. You were just reiterating what the papers were ALREADY saying and what he ALREADY admitted.

  13. Hi Dannii, you won't remember me but i met you years back at G-A-Y when you were performing All i wanna do! i was club medic and we chatted backstage, i thought you were very warm, kind and you were thankful of your gay support in fans.....you were in awe of the reception you got, you clearly arn't a homophobe. Big up Team Minogue.... love ya gorgeous. x

  14. Dannii I have loved you since Home & Away and I would never be convinced of you saying or doing anything against the gay community. You are a fantastic advocate for our community and you and Kylie have been true divas in the positive sense of the word when its come to supporting us over the past 20 odd years.

  15. Dannii sweetie I guess like me all your fans have stopped believing in those rumours about you and Kylie.

You both been married , pregnant, in fights or even aliens countless times. Noone believes the papers anymore or takes them seriously.

I want you to know that you have my full support and I am sure that the other members of you messageboard feel the same. Can´t wait to see your new website by the way.

Lots of hugs to you and good luck in winning the X Factor.

  16. Dannii, your comments were taken completely out of context. I'm a lesbian and did not think they were offensive in the slightest. Danyl has said he's bi and I actually think he was more upset with Louis and Cheryl's critique than yours. Why couldn't he sing the song's original lyrics about being in love with another man? As somebody else has mentioned on here, you have a massive gay following.
I think it's double standards that there's no problem if a judge mentions how much a straight male contestant enjoys performing with female dancers but when a comment is made about how the lyrics didn't need to be changed for a bi singer there's a ridiculous backlash.
Of course the media is going to create a big fuss about what you said but please believe you did nothing wrong.

  17. Hey, we've all made comments that came out wrong (pardon the pun), happens to the best of us. Bit embarrassing, but no harm done. :)

  18. I've blogged at length over this one, my opinion is basically...

I absolutely adore Dannii, this has all been blown way out of proportion and if Simon Cowell had said it, this much controversy wouldn't have been caused.

I honestly believe there was NOTHING homophobic in what Dannii said. Shows like The X Factor are infamous for trying to keep contestants sexuality under wraps so they don't alienate record buying public (usually young girls with crushes on cute boys (who are actually gay)) which I personally, find very offensive.

If someone is comfortable with their sexuality and they're open about it, I think it's unfair to have them masquerade as straight.

From what I can gather, Danyl himself had said he was bisexual. Dannii didn't blurt out a secret only she was supposed to know.

Until this all dies down and the media hoard scurry off, I for one will be defending Dannii to the last.

    Go girl! You're fabulous! xx

  19. If anything this was an incredibly supportive statement - effectively 'Be who you are'. If Danyl is bisexual, then why was the lyric changed? Probably to pander to a minority in the audience who are homophobic!

And typically what happens instead is the bourgeois PC brigage who didn't even understand the comment jump on it for being the exact opposite of what it was.

    Good on you Dannii.

I always thought it was a shame that for whatever reason Will Young didn't sing 'You're the only boy that I need' in Evergreen.

By the way Dannii (and I say this as a heterosexual man) you look stunning and come across as caring the most about your acts, so good luck this year!

  20. Simon has long since tried to force his contestants back in the closet. Last year, he did the same with Austin.

    Dannii rocks, forever.

  21. Don't worry about it. Hate the way you've even been made to apologize when it was nothing but a harmless joke.Danyl was the one who outed himself to the papers, not you, and Simon was the one who made the whole situation worse! All your fans are behind you 100%. xx

  22. I don't understand people who wrote negative opinions about U. They are stupid if they understood U said that in negative way. I hope U don't care about it. Love U! Go Team Minogue!!! Your Girls were awesome yesterday!!! :)

  23. Dannii you did nothing wrong! It's been blown out of proportion to get headlines. You were fab on the show as always!! Team Minogue!

  24. Dannii, this very gay man thinks you are AWESOME. Joke or not, you actually made a very valid point!

Let me tell you a great story about Dannii. Back in 1996/1997, an old friend of mine used to work on a Scottish gay publication. It wasn't a HUGE publication by any means, but my friend always could count on support from Dannii. That meant he got to interview her a handful of times and he told me that she would ALWAYS remember his first name whenever they met and that they would sit and gossip like buddies every time.

I will always remember that story and, to this day (obviously), I tell it to illustrate how (1) supportive of the gay community she really is, and (2) how down to earth and generally warm and kind she is too.

    Go Dannii. You are amazing!

  25. Sorry, it was a stupid comment, Danii and you know it. Totally out of line and beside any point about his performance, good or bad. If Danyl is bi-sexual, he could sing the song "both ways" and it makes sense. Why try to put him into your "straight-jacket"? Especially since you don't seem so successful at having a relationship with a significant other. Stick to a contestant's talent or lack there-of.
